Do You Have What it Takes to Make A Living Online?
March 18, 2008
There are loads of people who desire to make an income online and for good reason. Working at home allows you to set your own schedule and work from the comfort of your own home. However, to be quite honest, working at home isn’t for everyone. If you aren’t disciplined enough to work when you don’t feel like it, you probably won’t do very well. Below are five questions that you should ask yourself and honestly answer before you attempt to make money online.
1. What are My Marketable Skills? The first thing that you have to determine is what skills you have to offer that will make you money. Are you a good writer? Do you have any programming experience? Are you good at marketing, or taking pictures?
2. Can I Handle Working Without a Guaranteed Paycheck?: Working online means that you get paid only when you earn it. Unless you rely strictly on pay-per-click marketing, sitting back and watching the pay checks roll in, just doesn’t happen for most folks. I know all the advertisements and infomercials promising easy paydays by working online are convincing, but they simply don’t ring true for most people. You have to be willing to work hard to make it online.
3. Am I Disciplined?: Working at home will require that you be disciplined. This means waking up everyday ready to work, no matter how you feel.
4. Can I handle Set Backs?: Like with any other self-owned business, you will experience setbacks. Search engine algorithms change. You may be in the top ten in the search engine rankings one day and then on page 10 the next. This will effect your bottom line. How well you deal with this, will determine how long you will be able to make it online. If you can’t handle setbacks, you may want to keep your nine-to-five job.
5. Do I Embrace Change?: If one thing is constant about the internet, it is change. Everything changes. How you respond will determine if you will be successful online. You won’t be able to simply react. You will have to constantly be on the cutting edge, so that you aren’t left behind.
The idea of making money online, appeals to many people. The strong desire to do so, leaves many people susceptible to scam artists who promise quick and easy riches. As a result, many people end up disappointed and disillusioned. This is because they come into it with unrealistic expectation. They don’t realize that the internet is a job like any other and you have to perform to get paid. Asking yourself five simple questions before you decide to become an internet marketer can save you time, money and heart ache. Those five questions are: Do I embrace change? Can I handle set backs? Am I disciplined? Can I handle working without a guaranteed paycheck? And lastly, “What are my marketable skills”? Honestly answering these questions will help you determine if working online is right for you.
